Morse Code Translator

Type text to get Morse code, or type dots and dashes to get text. Listen to it, flash it, feel it as vibration, download it as audio or send it to a friend as a secret message.

How to use the Morse code translator

  1. Type your text. The Morse code appears as you type. Paste Morse into the Text box and it is decoded automatically.
  2. Or enter Morse. Use the and – buttons (or the . and - keys). A space ends a letter, a slash (/) ends a word.
  3. Send it. Play it as sound, flash the screen like a signal lamp, let your phone vibrate, download a WAV file or share a secret link.

How Morse code works

Morse code writes every letter as a short pattern of two signals: a short one, the dot (“dit”), and a long one, the dash (“dah”). The rhythm matters as much as the signals, so Morse can be sent with anything that can be switched on and off: a sound, a light, a vibration, a tap on a table.

ElementLength
Dot 1 unit
Dash –3 units
Gap inside a letter1 unit
Gap between letters3 units
Gap between words7 units

The most common letters got the shortest codes: E is a single dot, T a single dash. That is why learning Morse code usually starts with E and T.
